Guidelines For Purchasing A
Fence
Haddon
Fence has been in
the business of
manufacturing
and
installing
fence since
1961.
We feel that we
deliver
the best
value in the
market
today.
Over the
years
we have found that
certain factors
are important in
evaluating a fence
purchase.
Evaluate the Company
Community reputation is a
good indication of a company's work. Check with
friends and neighbors for
references. Your builder and
real
estate agent are also good
references.
It is
important
to deal with a company that has an
organization
behind it. This
provides a
greater capacity to
handle
emergencies, service
problems, etc. Evaluate how
service is handled, who
supervises
the work, and whether
there is
personnel available during
normal
working hours
to respond to
your
questions. Also, does the
company operate
a full
twelve months
a year, or does
it close down at the
end of
the
season?
Evaluate who
actually does the
work. Does
the company use
it's own installers,
or
does it
subcontract the
installation?
Ask how the
fence is
actually
installed, and who
to
contact if
there
is a
problem.
Deal with
a
company that is
Incorporated in
the State of New
Jersey. There
are
better
controls and monitoring
of
incorporated
businesses.
If
problems do
occur, there is a greater
probability that
they
will be resolved
properly.
Be
sure that the contractor is licensed
to do
business in
your
community.
This can be checked with the local
building
inspector's
office.
Another way to evaluate a
company is to
call or visit
your local Better
Business
Bureau or
the County
Consumer
Affairs Office.
These
organizations will
generally
be
aware
of
companies that
have a
history of
unresolved
problems.
Visit the Showroom
Any contractor who has
a long
term
interest in fence
installation
will have a
showroom.
This is
an indication
of a companies
stability as well as
it's desire for
the consumer to see
exactly
what
they will
be
purchasing. There
is a wide
range of fence quality on
the market
today. A visit to
the showroom
will
enable you to
evaluate
purchasing
choices more
clearly.
The
customer should
be very
careful in
evaluating fences
based
on verbal
descriptions
alone. A "four
foot high
cedar
picket fence" can
cover many styles,
all very
different
from one
another.
The same is
true of
fencing made
of other
materials,
such as
vinyl.
Evaluate the Purchase
The cost of your fence will depend upon a number of factors,
such as the type of fence, it's life expectancy, and it's
method of construction
and
installation.
There are
no
two companies that
construct fence
exactly
the same
way.
Therefore, you
will find price and quality
differences. These
become
apparent if you visit the
company's
showrooms
and compare
fences.
Evaluate
any
warranties. A warranty
is
only
as
good
as the
company
behind it. If
the
company
isn't in business when
you
need them, the warranty
is
valueless.
Evaluate the
service capability of
the
company. Good intentions
do
not always mean good
service. Who
will do
the service,
and how long
does it
usually
take?
The final factor
to evaluate
in
any purchase is the
cost.
Is
it fair
in
terms of the
product
and service
being delivered?
The cheapest
price is not always
the
lowest cost
in the
long
run.
